This past year, many of us have seldom opened our makeup bags. We embodied the natural look of the bare face and natural glow because we had nowhere to go and no one to see. However, fall 2021 promises to plunge us into splashes of colour, to resurrect head-turning dramatic details, and to continue to accentuate naturally stunning features. We will always embrace the more natural looks we adopted in a year spent in our sweatpants; but makeup isn’t dead, it’s back and as exciting as ever! Here are the looks we’re wearing this fall:
Beautifully Natural Brows
We’re not the only ones who missed waxing for so long we just let it all go. Thankfully, we see a trend of just surrendering to that natural beauty 一 and that includes body hair! The unplucked, swept up, thick and luscious look is here baby! Soap brows are fastly becoming the coveted look of the fall. The name itself refers to the grooming method of using a bar of soap to sweep your brows upwards to encourage that fuller appearance. You can also just use a brow gel and a brow brush to get that full shape. A go-to is the Covergirl Micro-Fine Fill + Define Eyebrow Pencil to fill in thinner spots and the Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Freeze Styling Wax to sweep up and shape for a gelled natural look.
Make Room for Luxurious Lashes
The world was deprived of your beauty for too long 一 it’s time to flaunt it. We’re seeing the trend for big, full, and bold lashes this coming season, and nothing completes a fall outfit better than a quick dab of mascara. A favourite for us right now is the Benefit Cosmetics: They’re Real! Magnet Extreme Lengthening Mascara and the Kosas: The Big Clean Volumizing + Lash Care Mascara. Lengthen those babies out to make a statement when you want a dramatic look but don’t have time to do every step in your makeup routine.
Emphasize Eyes with Colour
Just because we’re in the last weeks of summer does not mean we need to disregard brighter colours from our everyday looks altogether. Makeup looks with eyeshadow and eyeliner are straying slightly from the usual blacks, browns, and golds for this fall. We’re seeing splashes of unique colours in cat-eye shapes, with more attention given to bottom-lid eyeliner to dramatize and emphasize. We often drift to darker hues for fall, but try a lighter lilac cat eye, a deeper sapphire blue, or a dusting of burnt orange to emphasize those toasty autumn hues while also incorporating rare colours that will certainly turn heads.
Dewy Glowing Skin
Again, we shouldn’t forget everything we learned in our no-makeup natural months this past year! Dewy and glowing skin is a trend we’re seeing more and more and we’re ready to build it into our everyday look this fall. We love the Unisex Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturier from Charlotte Tillbury which provides a little bit of bronzing coverage and leaves a light dewy finish. We like to add a bit of colour without sacrificing that natural look using a touch of our go-to Hourglass Vanish Blush Stick. Check out the full glowy look here!
The changing of the seasons is always a thrilling turn of the fashion pages. There’s a whole new natural palette to draw inspiration from 一 and nothing beats the brilliant red hues of autumn. This year we’re using it to accentuate bold, bright, and full lips. If you’re clinging onto summer, you can still wear lighter hues and whites while incorporating the deeper reds to step every outfit up another level. Or dive right into the traditional season colours of browns, blacks, and earthy greens. The below look is from the Rouge Dior, a long standing favourite. Use with the matte or satin finish depending on the look you’re going for.
